School Counseling Program
Mission Statement
The mission of the Drummond Area School District School Counseling Program is to advocate for the success of all students and promote lifelong, self-directed learners through ensuring their academic, personal/social, and career development.
Role of the School Counselor:
School counselors help all students with academic achievement, personal and social development, and career planning. The counselor works with students in the classroom, in small group settings, and individually through focusing on student needs and growth. Consultation and collaboration is done with teachers, parents, administrators and community service providers to assist students.
Classroom Guidance:
School counselors work with all students to teach skills for becoming successful individuals and lifelong learns. Curriculum units focus on academics, personal/social topics, and career exploration. At the elementary level, the counselor visits classrooms weekly to help students learn skills in:
Individual Counseling:
Individual counseling is provided to students as needed to offer support with academic, personal/social, and career concerns. Students may be referred for counseling by their parent/guardian, teacher, administrator, support staff or the student themselves. Information shared with the counselor is confidential within the legal guidelines established by mandatory reporting laws.
Group Counseling:
Small or large group counseling is provided as needed to students who share common needs or concerns. Students may be referred to joining a group from their teacher or parent/guardian. Through group participation, students have the opportunity to grow, learn new skills, and develop relationships with peers. Group topics may very. Individual Student Planning/Responsive Services:
At the middle/high school level, the counselor meets with students throughout the year to discuss one ore more of the following areas:
